A  6-foot-6 Five Star guard, Darryn Peterson from Huntington Prep, is one of the most in-demand high school basketball recruits in the class of 2025. After becoming the first high school player to sign an NIL deal with the Adidas, Darryn Peterson recruitment has gotten a significant attention.

Peterson has finalised eight schools which includes Arkansas, Baylor, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, and Ohio State, with Kentucky being his first official visit.

Darryn Peterson Sr., Peterson’s father, mentioned that Darryn’s dream school was always Kentucky. During his childhood, he looked up to former Kentucky players like John Wall, Devin Booker, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

He admire the playing style of the team at Kentucky, as he hold a high regards for coach John Calipari’s ability to prepare the player for NBA. The Fact that Peterson was the first player to receive an offer from Kentucky wildcats in the strong 2025 class held regards for him.

Despite, Kentucky being the first preference for Darryn, the plan is to visit every finalists over the upcoming months, with some visits happening before the end of the school year and the rest in the fall. For Perterson’s development and future career, each finalist offer a unique advantage and opportunities for him.

One of the big questions surrounding Darryn Peterson is whether he will reclassify to the class of 2024. While he is physically dominant at the high school level, moving up a class would mean spending two years in college before being eligible for the NBA Draft. The Petersons are considering this option and envision a plan where Darryn would spend his first year in college preparing and learning, with a focus on development and readiness for a successful NBA career.

Another key factor for Peterson is the opportunity to play point guard in college. He excelled in this role during his time with USA Basketball and believes his size and skill set make him a unique point guard prospect.

Ultimately, Peterson’s decision will be based on the school’s ability to help him develop as a player, win games, and prepare for a potential NBA career. He wants to experience the NCAA Tournament and make a deep run, following in the footsteps of players like CJ McCollum, whom he has grown close to. Peterson seeks a coach who will challenge and push him to be the best player he can be, while also supporting his goal of becoming a top NBA draft pick.
